The Wacky World of Architecture
Pt.6

Houses, apartments, condominiums, offices, stores and restaurants. Netherland Plaza, Union Terminal, Music Hall, Great American Ballpark and too many houses, apartments and condominiums to start listing. Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Hannaford, Frank Lloyd Wright, Gehry, Graves, Hadid, Mies and many, many more. What do all of these people, places and things have in common? ARCHITECTS!

When we go to a new city, visit a new country with a different culture, or visit a friend that just completed a major remodeling of their home, what is one of the first things that we notice? The buildings, the public spaces, the private spaces. What is it the common thread? They were all designed by architects.

Try to imagine our world without the vision, wisdom, insight and artistry of all the architects that have influenced our lives, often without us even knowing it. We see buildings and stare with awe at the scale, the details, the sheer beauty. Architects give us the whimsey of our childhood, the science and technology we seek as adults, with the assurance of being safe and protected within our “cocoon” of solitude.

Architects evoke our subconscious emotions without us knowing that they’ve done it. They can make us feel safe, they can make us feel insignificant, they can make us feel comfortable, or awestruck or dumbfounded. No other professional has the ability to make us have any or all of these emotions simply by looking at and using the buildings and spaces that create our built environment. Architects are physicists, artists, mathematicians, sculptors, and carpenters. They are innovators, creators, dreamers, and problem solvers. They create these structures and spaces, while always having our health, safety and welfare at the forefront of every design.

So the next time you walk into your friend’s newly remodeled home, or are awestruck when you see some spectacular structure for the first time, or you appreciate how well this building performs it function, or how safe you feel in this building…thank the architect who had the vision, creativity, knowledge and ability to create this building or space for you, me and all the people that use and enjoy it.

Let us CONSULT with you about your project, CONCEIVE beautiful and functional designs, and CREATE the space of your dreams.

I will end with that thought, but only for now. I will return with more adventures into the Wacky World of Architecture! Have a wonderful day!
