The Wacky World of Architecture
V.1 P.1

ARCHITECTURE is defined as: the profession of designing buildings, open areas, communities, and other artificial constructions and environments, usually with some regard to aesthetic effect. Architecture often includes design or selection of furnishings and fixtures, supervision of construction work, and the examination, restoration, or remodeling of existing buildings.

By inference, an ARCHITECT must then be the professional that designs the buildings, open areas, communities and other artificial constructions and environments.  As the only professional with the specific knowledge and skill set to provide this service, the architect is an indispensable part of society providing each of us peace of mind regarding our health, safety and welfare as it relates to our built environment. This fact leads me to a question that has perplexed me for quite a while…even though most people may have tremendous respect for architects as professionals, they seem to be much less likely to engage the services of a licensed architect (unless absolutely necessary) than they are to engage the services of other professionals such as lawyers, doctors, accountants, etc.

The fees that architects charge are driven by our knowledge and expertise, our experience, our ability to imagine and create, as well as, our acceptance of the liability that goes along with designing buildings that other people will inhabit and use on a daily basis.  This is quite a responsibility, and not one to be taken lightly.  We don’t question the fees that our attorney or accountant charge us for their services, yet many people feel that an architect’s knowledge and services should be in the public domain and should not be charged for, at least not at a reasonable rate.  That’s a problem!

The next time that you want to build a new house, add onto or remodel an existing house, consider hiring the ONLY professional capable of providing a safe, functional and (hopefully) beautiful design for your project.  Bite the bullet and pay to have your project designed and supervised by a true professional.  It was good enough for Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Frank Lloyd Wright, and it is good enough for Mark Streicher and C3 Architecture & Design.  Let us CONSULT with you about your project, CONCEIVE beautiful and functional designs, and CREATE the space of your dreams.

I will end with that thought, but only for now.  I will return with more adventures into the Wacky World of Architecture!  Have a wonderful day!
